Actus reus

  • Drive or use a vehicle when the registration mark fails to comply with the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 (size, font, spacing, contrast, fixing), usually charged under VERA 1994, s.59.

Mens rea

  • Using the vehicle with a non-conforming mark. This is not the s.44 fraudulent-use / forged-document offence unless that is what is charged.
